Based out of Calgary, CRAFT Actors Studio provides an encouraging, fun, and professional atmosphere for our actors. Students should expect to meet a high standard of work ethic and dedication to developing their craft in a safe space that allows them to really play and take risks. We don't believe in acting "tricks" or any short cuts - just hard work with the aim of freeing the actor's emotional instrument and expanding their intellectual growth and imagination.
Our training focuses on the study of self-exploration and imagination. You will be encouraged to show the profoundly unique parts of yourself that don’t fit into a box, that can’t be contained by a type, that inspire, that reveal unique parts of our own humanity.
We challenge actors to go beyond the pedestrian - using their imaginations and life experiences to develop the characters they portray. In order for actors to do this, we have our actors explore various aspects of a number of different methods, and explore the teachings from Meisner, to Adler, to Strasburg; because we believe that actors need as many "tools in their belt" as possible to successfully meet the performance requirements of them in the audition room, on camera, or on stage. So no matter your age, level, or experience - our self-study and exploratory method is a never ending learning cycle that allows us to really work with each actor individually to get them to their next level of acting.
We don't believe in cramming students into classes. Out multi-week classes always work in smaller groups (no more than 10 per class) to ensure everyone gets enough time to truly stretch their performance muscles, with special attention and feedback paid to each actor. While our workshops invite larger groups to provide opportunity for networking.
We don't believe in concrete stop times for our classes. Unlike other studios, we have no problem putting in the extra time to make sure every student is pushed to produce their best results in every class.
We collaborate with various creative spaces in Calgary. Currently, we hold our classes and workshops in the studio spaces at EMMEDIA Studios.
